So Today Boomer and I rolled out a new segment, we call it cooking for bachelors. Boomer and I being 2 single guys who are average…to below average cooks we were forced to come up with crazy, good tasting recipes, that weren’t complicated. Because of our vast knowledge of Bachelor cookery…we felt it was a crime not to share our recipes with the world.
The recipe I came up with is a desert/snake item that touches on/skips around almost all of your major food groups. I call it the “Nooge Surprise”…because it surprised even me that I could come up with something so complicated.
Nooge Surprise
What You’ll Need:
- Some sort of buttery cracker (Club, Ritz, Townhouse, etc.) or Graham Cracker – try to stay away from saltines if you can. (And a knife to spread)
- Some Fluff or Jet Puff marshmallow spread. (And a spoon to spread)
- Peanut butter, smooth OR chunky will work. I like smooth.
- Jelly. I like strawberry Jelly and if you can get it in a squeeze bottle that’s even better. (If you don’t have a squeeze bottle you’ll need another spoon)
The Steps to Culinary Success
Step 1
- You’re going to want to take 4 crackers and lay them out on a plate. You’re not going to want to eat more than 4, these are serious cracker treats. Make sure you have enough space on your plate for all 4…and if you have company over go ahead and put it on a fancy plate (she’ll be impressed.)
Step 2
- On the cracker spread a THIN layer of Fluff. The key here is to get enough so that the whole top half of the cracker is covered, but not enough so it’s THICK. So be gentle my friend.
Step 3
- After you’ve spread the thin layer of Fluff on the cracker you are now going to add a THICK layer of peanut butter on top of it. Again the key here is to make sure the whole cracker is covered, but this time you want it to have some depth…you can do 1tbs per cracker…or more if you are a peanut butter lover. (Remember PB has a lot of protein in it…)
Step 4
- Now here is the tricky part if you don’t have a squeeze jelly, you are going to have to put a thin layer of jelly on top of the cracker. NOW…if you have a squeeze bottle just don’t be a doofus and squeeze it on all over the place…be gentle and get a thin layer.
- You spooners are going to have some trouble. What I suggest is this, make a little retention pond in the middle of your cracker in the peanut butter with the peanut butter spoon. A lake that is deep and wide enough to hold all the jelly that you want. Then SPOON in the jelly. Your cracker will look a little bit different but it will be much easier to handle and won’t be nearly as messy.
Step 5
- Here is where you have some options. You can add a top to the cracker, again if you are going to give it a “hat” you have to be gentle and not push down on it once you sit it on there or everything will come running out. You’ll look like a fool.
OR
- If you are still going hat-less you can do what I like to do on special occasions when I’m trying to impress a young lady…feel free to break out the sprinkles and give them a once over. These won’t really do much to the flavor but will add a neat texture to the cracker (if you don’t want to use chunky PB, or you don’t like peanuts.)
Now all that is left is for you to enjoy what you created.
Drink of Choice for this meal: Milk. I like skim milk, I know others like different types. But milk is the way to go for sure.
Serving Size: 4 crackers, can serve 1 to 2. Don’t know how hungry you are. Make more if you’re super hungry. But if this is your first time, just go with the 4, it may be too much.
When do I eat this?
Well the fact of the matter is this is going to be a super sweet treat. It can be a dessert, but I think it’s probably better suited as a snack, when you don’t want a cookie. The great thing about this recipe is that it has peanut butter (Protein)…Jelly (fruits…kind of…well no)…Cracker (Grains! If you use whole grain)…and Marshmallow (Which is a food group in itself). You get a little bit of everything! Again it’s a great hand food and you don’t have to do any fancy crap when making it. No oven to turn on…and then try to remember or any of that crap! Just good old fashioned junk food eating.
Enjoy!
