The Voting Process

I’m going to take a second to explain a little bit about the voting process that we have implemented for our Top 10 Unsigned Artist Countdown. (UPDATED: APRIL 19, 2009)

The basics are as follows:
- You can vote for any song you would like that we have listed in our artists directory. All you have to do is find your favorite band in our Artist Directory click on their name, then click on the button that says “Vote For this Song” under the song that you want to vote for.

- You can vote 1 time per day per computer for your favorite song. So click as much as you want, but only 1 vote will count. On the right hand side of our page you will see the updated standings as you vote.

- Only the #1 voted on song will be guaranteed to make the top 10 show.

- Votes only count up until Thursday at Midnight (Voting will still take place, but those votes WILL NOT COUNT FOR THIS WEEK! They will count for the following week.)

- The voting standings will be reset by 11:59PM on Sundays (But can be reset at anytime from 11:59PM Thursday to 11:59PM Sunday). ***We are currently experiencing some “bug” activity on our vote counter so we are working to fix that up and have it back on the right side of the page ASAP.

I hope that quick explanation helps clear up the questions that I have been getting about the voting process. Please remember to vote for your favorite band every day (We have had thousands of votes each week! So vote as often as you can!)

Any questions get at me!

I came across an article on MTV.com that mentioned how a few scribes had penned a remake of the “Friday the 13th” series. While I’m sure about 90% of you let out a collective groan of displeasure upon reading that, I for one have always enjoyed the C-list horror movie genre. Once in a while, if you take your time with it, you can weave your way through a local Blockbuster or Family Video and come across some gems that you’d never normally think to rent. Two specific titles come to mind: “The Greenskeeper,” which happened to star ex-major league pitcher and resident headcase/racist, John Rocker, and also “The Gingerdead Man,” Dave’s personal favorite which featured the greatest actor of our generation, Gary Busey.

But back to the “Friday the 13th” movies. Sure they may lack the pizazz, and the je -ne-sais-quoi that the “Halloween” series may have. But what “Friday” may lack in strong acting roles and apparent plot lines, it more than makes up for with cheesy one-liners and head-scratching dialog. If you want to fully appreciate these kinds of movies, you have to lower your expectations of them. You can’t rent “The Greenskeeper” and expect to watch John Rocker light up the screen like he’s the next Denzel Washington. But if you go into it thinking you’re going to to watch John Rocker make a fool out of himself, then I think you’ll be just fine.

As is the case with the most recent Hollywood horror remakes, I’m sure the producers will try their damnedest to make this movie into a legitimate box office hit. It may have worked with Rob Zombie’s remake of “Halloween,” but that’s because that series was the first of it’s kind. All I can do is hope that they keep those patches of scraggly hair on Jason Vorhees’ head and let the man do what he does best.

Friday feast,

Matt

Is it me, or has there been nothing exciting in the entertainment world lately? It’s not like I purposefully skip writing blogs or anything, there’s just been nothing to talk about. Honestly. All of the big news around here has been all sports-related: the Cubs/White Sox, the NBA Finals, the whole Big Brown/horse racing thing, and so on. Although, I suppose I can briefly mention how a week or two ago, CBS became the first major network to nationally televise Mixed Martial Arts in a primetime TV slot. Basically, it was a chance for them to show the world who Kimbo Slice is. For those who don’t know, he garnered fame on Youtube fighting random people for money so that he could, well, stay alive and not be homeless. Kidding aside, he still looks homeless even while making six figures doing MMA. Anyways, he has gone from internet phenomenon, much like Vertical Jones, to MMA media darling since everyone is so desperate to promote his next fight against a nobody.

Perhaps the only real news of the day is that today is the weekly bowling extravaganza for the Nooge, Dave “the superfreak,” and myself. Last time, Matt D. graced us with his presence and showcased his hall-of-fame form that made him a hardwood legend back in the early 90′s. We’ll see who will become a legend tonight. My guess it’s the first girl that lays her eyes on Dave.

keep hustlin,

Matt

I saw/read this story on ESPN a few days ago, and while I know everyone on this site is not necessarily a big sports sports fan, this is the type of experience that just tugs at your heart strings a bit. So rather than me butcher another man’s story, I’ll provide a copy of the link.
Basically, the story is about Louis Mulkey, a firefighter and basketball coach in South Carolina who died while responding to a fire, and how the team he had been coaching went on to the state championship game as Mulkey had predicted years earlier. But rather than spoil the ending to the story, I’ll let you watch for yourself.
I found the video, which was originally run on ESPN, on YouTube. However, my readers (do I even have readers?) know of my penchant for not figuring out how to embed videos into my post. So here’s the link for part 1, and for part 2.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

One love,

Matt

While some may point out that both Dave and R. Kelly are from the Chicagoland area, and both have a penchant for underage girls, the difference is that R. Kelly is most likely going to prison for his dirty deeds. This story has been on the back burner for a long time, as everyone knows. Heck, I remember being a wide-eyed 18-year-old college kid who had never witnessed a grown man pee on a woman before. Of course, this was before the Dutch porn invasion of the early 2000′s.
But to be quite honest, I’m curious as to why it has taken this long for everything to come to fruition. The man videotaped himself having sex with a girl who was 13 at the time, did he not? Let’s look past the fact the he used the girl’s face as a toilet seat, and that she appeared to enjoy it if not at least a little bit. R. Kelly is a sick man, and I think I speak for all level-headed people when I say he should spend some quality time in the pen. I guess if they really wanted to wrap up the court proceedings quickly, they should just set up a sting a la “To Catch a Predator.” The guys that get caught on that show have come up with some doosies as to what they were doing, so what could R. Kelly possibly say to clear his name? Nothing, thats what. So here’s to hoping he goes the route of Tupac and releases his next album from behind bars.

murder was the case that they gave me,

Matt
